LASIK Overview

Laser Vision Correction is a modern surgical procedure that has helped millions of people see better. LASIK permantly changes the shape of the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. LASIK does not correct the condition known as presbyopia (loss of auto focus) that occurs around age 40 in most people.

To prepare for laser vision correction, a complete eye exam with special testing will be done. The complete eye exam takes 1-2 hours and includes:

-Complete dilated exam
-Corneal map
-Wavescan measurements
-Corneal thickness measurement
-Prescription for glasses if you are not a candidate

Other criteria:

You must be 18 years of age or older.
A stable eye glass prescription for two years.
Your eyes must be free of disease.
You must have realistic expectations.

Texas Regional Eye Center offers complimentary consultations daily. Call 979-774-0498 to schedule.

LASIK v. PRK

There are two basic ways to reshape the corneal surface with the laser, PRK and LASIK. Each technique uses “custom” corrective technology and provides good vision. PRK (Photo Refractive Keratectomy) treats the surface of the cornea while LASIK treats beneath the corneal surface.
