Frequently Asked Questions
It's normal to be nervous about a vision correction procedure, these are your eyes. But there is a tremendous amount of data supporting the safety and effectiveness of each of these procedures. Many LASIK, PRK and EVO ICL patients have better vision than they did with their best glasses prior to surgery. And contrary to the myth, in more than 40 million procedures performed worldwide, there has never been a case of blindness because of LASIK in anyone who is a healthy, good candidate.
Your surgeon will discuss all of the risks, side effects and what you can expect with the procedure recommended to you at your consultation.
In the first step, our surgeons make a customized, micron-thin, circular flap in the cornea – the surface of the eye using a femtosecond laser. In the second step, a computer-guided excimer laser is used to permanently reshape your cornea to correct your vision irregularities so light can accurately. The flap is then laid back in place to act as a natural bandage and protect the reshaped portion of the cornea while it heals.
You will not feel anything during any of our vision correction procedures. We use gentle, eye numbing and lubricating drops throughout the procedure to keep you comfortable. You may feel some pressure but the procedures last less than 5 minutes and most of our patients leave thinking that was a lot easier than they expected.
Depending on which procedure you have, your restrictions may vary. However, with LASIK and EVO ICL most patients are back to their regular activities the very next day. We don’t want you to rub your eyes for a while and to avoid dust, dirt and smoke-filled environments for a time period as well as lakes, pools and hot tubs. We want to be sure we avoid any possibility for infection. We also recommend frequent computer breaks and to stay on top of your eye drop regimen!
