Understanding LASIK

LASIK permanently changes the shape of the cornea to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. LASIK does not correct the condition known as presbyopia (the loss of near focus, also known as reading vision) that occurs around age 45 in most people. The LASIK procedure begins with an in-office consultation to ensure you're a candidate for the procedure. Using state-of-the-art technology, precise measurements of your eyes will be taken and used to create a customized treatment plan for your eyes. In most cases, LASIK corrective surgery can be completed in just a few minutes in our state- of-the-art, on-site surgical center and can produce dramatic improvement to your vision.

Preparing for LASIK

To prepare for laser vision correction, a complete eye exam with special testing will be done. The complete eye exam takes 1-2 hours and includes:

  • Complete dilated exam
  • Corneal map
  • Wavescan measurements
  • Corneal thickness measurement
  • Prescription for glasses if you are not a candidate

Who is a Candidate?

  • You must be 18 years of age or older.
  • A stable eye glass prescription for two years.
  • Your eyes must be free of disease.
  • You must have realistic expectations.
